Ligia Manuela Lewis
Ligia Manuela Lewis (1983, USA) holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in dance and choreography from Virginia Commonwealth University, Richmond, USA (2001-05), where she had the opportunity to work with O'Connor, Dorfman and Mason, to name a few. She began her intensive training at Booker High School's Visual and Performing Arts Center (1998-2001) under the direction of Carter. Ligia has performed in several venues in Germany and America including: Kampnagel, Hamburg; Sophiensaele, BAT Studio Theater, Labor Gras Studio, Kunsthaus Tacheles, HAU 2 and Dock 11, Berlin. In the USA she has performed at Dixon Place, NYC, Judson Church, NYC, and Dance Place, Washington D.C. Ligia is also the co-author of the following choreographies: Pulp Theory, with Drew Kaiser; Episode One, with Maya Dalinsky (2007); Development with Martin Hansen, Steve Martinez and Eric Green (2006); REdounLIVE An Artless Chronicle, Portrait of a Lady (2005). Among her achievements are the Carpenter Scholarship awarded by VCU and a full scholarship to the American Dance Festival. Ligia is a member of the dance theater company Les Ballets C de la B, touring Europe extensively. Although she has had to limit her choreographic activities since joining Les Ballets, Ligia remains invested in making her own work. She previously choreographed and performed in Germany and in the US, where she has worked as an independent artist and collectively with her family (LewisForever.com), exploring their familial relationships and their relationships to art.
