about the piece

Music, language and movement are closely intertwined: language becomes music through song. Music has rhythm, which is good to dance to. Dance – like language – is a form of expression. But how is it possible e.g. to dance a task, such as: Today is Wednesday, 10 am?

Drawing inspiration from pop songs, three dancers from Canada, Germany and Burkina Faso explore the mutual influences of words and movement. By speaking with their bodies, but also in German, English and French, they compare various means of expression. Their words develop while dancing or afterwards. But what is stronger? Does language dominate movement? Or does the body blaze the way?

The dancers decide anew over and over again whether the body or language better expresses what they want to say. They explore the limitations of words and movement – the moment in which language no longer suffices and the body simply has to dance.
