"This double CD provides an essential overview of the different production approaches in the American camp. By far the most advanced project to date!" This was the verdict of Spex in its October 2000 issue on American Breakbeat, the starting point and template for American Breakbeat - Rebuilt. The Rebuilt concept: 34 artists from 33 countries remix the tracks of American Breakbeat. A hard piece of label work that elevates compiling to an empirical science. Matmos, Leafcutter John, Ultra Milkmaids, Lesser, Kid606, Pimmon, Panacea - they all remixed or had themselves remixed. The results were particularly surprising when established artists met no-names from the furthest corners of the globe. A compilation project between field research and great entertainment. Compared to American Breakbeat, American Breakbeat - Rebuilt is a bit lighter and poppier. But Klangkrieg wouldn't be Klangkrieg if they hadn't recruited musical border crossers for such a mammoth sampler. So there is a reunion with many old acquaintances and some amazing new discoveries. For all its conceptualism, American Breakbeat - Rebuilt promises first and foremost enormous listening pleasure. Both CDs stay in flow, while the arc is stretched from clicks & cuts to deadpan electropop to breakcore and noisy drones. Once again, an absolutely stylish sampler from Klangkrieg Productions!
