Ufuk Şenel

Ufuk Şenel is an Istanbul-based dancer, choreographer and teacher. He received his bachelor’s degree from the Modern Dance Department of the Art and Design Faculty of Yıldız Technical University under the direction of Geyvan McMillen. He then completed his Master’s degree at the Contemporary Dance Department of Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University with a thesis based on his research entitled “Creating a Contemporary Dance Choreography Based on the Concept of Intimacy”. During his training he worked with teachers such as Paul Clayden, Juan Kruz Garaoi de Esnaola, Liam Stell, Nicole Caccivio, Matthew Hawkins and Hilke Diemer. He has danced in works by prominent artists such as Tuğçe Tuna, Aydan Türker, Handan Ergiydiren, Jerome Bel, Hilke Diemer, Paul Bargetto, Erik Kaiel and Loretta Livingstone. In 2014, he received a DanceWEB scholarship and, with the support of the Turkish Cultural Foundation, participated in the Vienna International Impulstanz Dance Festival, where he had the opportunity to work with Meg Stuart. Şenel, who has been showing his own choreographies for many years, has participated in important festivals in Turkey and abroad, performing his works and organising classes and workshops in various places such as CATI (Contemporary Dance Artists Association) and Salt Galata. Through his collaboration with Can Bora within the Berika Collective, he has created works entitled “ALTAR”, “Rabbit Hole (Tavşan deliği)” and “Dreambazaar”. Currently, Şenel is researching and creating multidisciplinary works within the project group called “Prufrock”, which he created with musician Eda Er as a result of their collaboration since 2019. Since the beginning of 2020, he has been working as the artistic director of PURESPACE, of which he is a co-founder.
