Juan Felipe Miranda Medina

Juan Felipe Miranda Medina is a musician, dancer and researcher working in the city of Arequipa, Peru as Professor at Universidad Católica San Pablo. Juan is the first Peruvian to graduate cum laude from the prestigious program Choreomundus – International Master Programme in Dance Knowledge, Practice and Heritage. Juan has a master degree in musicology and a doctorate in telecommunications. He is actively involved with the Afro-Peruvian community given his artistic and scientific interest in Afro-Peruvian music and dance, especially in the Zapateo. His theoretical methods are rooted in anthropology, musicology, semiotics, engineering and philosophy and have the aim of find a convergence point between these fields within the cultural practices. Juan has held several dance workshops in Arequipa, Bolivia, Guatemala, Brazil and Norway and is currently working on the theme of heritage decolonization and its implications.
