Sophie Prins

Sophie Prins (1995) was born in Utrecht, the Netherlands. As a child she walked around the brass ensemble of her parents, for which she later wrote an arrangement and still does some conducting. She used to play clarinet and started with urban dance styles.

In 2018 she graduated from the Urban Contemporary Dance Theatre Department at the Amsterdamse Hogeschool voor de Kunsten where she got the chance to work with choreographers like Heidi Viertaler, Shumpei Nemoto and theatre director Michiel de Regt. To further develop herself as a singer and musician, she combined the dancing with her studies at the Jazz Conservatory of Amsterdam, where she is still studying voice and jazz. She has been on stage in various multidisciplinairy productions, working with Alida Dors, Dalton Jansen, Tjon Rockon, Christoph Winkler (in the production Sheroes), Kathrin Gramelsberger and Fernando Troya.

Last year her dance/voice duet with Wennah Wilkers won the Open Your Mind Choreography prize, and also in her solo work she tries to work with her connection to different disciplines and styles to find new colours.
