Sophie Prins

Sophie Prins

Sophie Prins was born in Utrecht (Netherlands) in 1995 and grew up with direct access to dance and music. She played the clarinet, toured with her parents’ brass ensemble, which she led and occasionally conducted, and approached the art of movement through urban dance styles. In 2018, she graduated from the Urban Contemporary Dance course at the Academy of Theatre and Dance, where she worked with choreographers such as Heidi Viertaler, Shumpei Nemoto, and director Michiel de Regt. She completed her training at the Jazz-Conservatorium van Amsterdam in singing and jazz. Prins has appeared on stage in a number of interdisciplinary projects, including with Alida Dors, Dalton Jansen, Tjon Rockon, Kathrin Gramelsberger, Fernando Troya, and Christoph Winkler.

Her dance/voice duet with Wennah Wilkers won the Open Your Mind Choreography prize, and also in her solo work she tries to work with her connection to different disciplines and styles to find new colours.
